Finale of Wolverhampton Music Service’s winter showcase

Wolverhampton Music Service's Winter Music Festival comes to a triumphant conclusion this week.

The Festival was launched in December to reconnect and inspire young musicians across the city to make music together during the Covid-19 pandemic and has seen young members of over a dozen bands, orchestras and ensembles demonstrating their skills every week on the Music Service’s YouTube channel.

Among the highlights were a performance of Jingle Bells by younger musicians and the orchestra's rendition of Uptown Funk.

It comes to an end this Thursday (11 February) at 7.30pm with a special showcase featuring all the Music Service groups and the Wolverhampton Youth Music Theatre Singers and a special performance from teachers.

Sarah Fletcher from the music service said: "We want to bring smiles to people's faces, and we hope Thursday's showcase will be a joyous event for everyone in Wolverhampton to watch together.

"We all know how positive an impact music can have on our lives and this is a chance to celebrate the young people of our city and have a dance and a singalong at home. We are also encouraging people to comment on our Facebook page as they are watching."

The link will be published on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Wolverhamptonmusicservice in the run up to Thursday's event, or can be accessed via the Music Service's YouTube channel, https://bit.ly/38Z7WNj.

Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “Music is a particularly important part of a young person's education, and our Music Service has been working incredibly hard to ensure students can continue their learning journey throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

“It has been wonderful to showcase the talents of our children and young people in this way over the last few weeks and I look forward to their final performance this week."

Wolverhampton Music Service provides quality teaching for children and young people across the city, including the chance to perform with Wolverhampton Youth Orchestra and Wolverhampton Youth Wind Orchestra. To find out more, please visit www.wolverhamptonmusicservice.org.uk.
